Grape growing and winemaking in the UK over the last ten years has led to a significant increase in the popularity of English wine, not just in the UK but across the world too.
Three-quarters of all bottles of English wine sold today are sparkling, and over 75% of the vines grown are here in the South of England.
Hattingley Valley is a custom-built, eco-friendly winery which specialises in making premium English sparkling wines using the traditional method. Our delicious (and multi-award-winning) collection is produced by our talented Head Winemaker Emma Rice - Twice winner of the 'UK Winemaker of the year'.
for the past two years, we've made half a million bottles a year, as we continue to grow our worldwide customers.
We are currently following Government guidelines with regard to managing our tour program:
Small group tours only with 2m social distancing. Tour group sizes have been reduced to allow greater personal space. Tours will be mainly outside and access to winery buildings will be limited. Provision for regular hand washing or sanitising. We are sanitising all critical contact points and visitors will be asked to take a temperature test.
Please do not attend the tour if you are part of a vulnerable group or if you are displaying any coronavirus symptoms.
Price is £17.50 per person. Booking is essential as spaces are limited to 10 guests.
Treated to a very friendly reception from Chris, who took out the temperature to ensure we were fit for purpose.
Only a group of ten which was perfect.
Entered the tasting barn and Chris gave a glass of sparkling rose and began to tell the story of Hattingley.
Moved to the production area. No staff working due to Covid - tour or staff working - not both. While describing the process Chris was easy to listen too and made it interesting. The stories of poor George and all the work he does!
We then moved onto the storage barn where the bottles are kept for the number of years needed and then through to the corking area.
Now the tasting back in the tasting barn. Due to Covid all individual tables with a bottle of water and 3 fizz glasses. Chris then offered samples of the classic, blanc de blanc and duchess.
You then get the chance to buy at a discounted price.
Thanks Chris, well worth it and will return when things are back to normal and the workers are there also.
....and fabulous, fabulous wines to boot.
We visited on a Sunday morning during Covid19, and were excellently hosted by Chris, who educated us throughout the couple of hours we looked round the site. Sadly no vineyards due to the current proximity restrictions and need to take a minibus, but it made little difference to our enjoyment.
The wines tasted at the end of the tour are truly superb - better than the French stuff IMHO - so we had to invest in a case of the best Blanc de Blancs and a couple of bottles of an exceptional dessert wine.
Highly recommend for a morning out, and if you get Chris as a host then you’re in for a treat.
