Jo Loves x Hattingley Valley Summer Partnership: Fragrance Tapas Launch Celebration Party
Last week, we had the pleasure of joining the Jo Loves team at their Elizabeth Street store to celebrate our exciting new summer partnership. It was an evening filled with delightful fragrance tapas and our exquisite English Sparkling wines. Guests savoured our Classic Reserve NV and Sparkling Rosé 2020, while immersing themselves in the captivating scents of Jo Loves fragrances. This event marked the beginning of our new partnership, which runs throughout July and August. Perfume and wine might not seem like an obvious pairing. In professional wine tastings, wearing perfume is usually discouraged as it can interfere with the wine's delicate aromas. However, for this event, we started with a wine tasting before delving into the fragrance experience. This allowed guests to explore the tasting notes of our wines and compare them with the scents in the fragrance tapas experience.
What is the Jo Loves Fragrance Tapas Experience?
The Jo Loves team describes their Fragrance Tapas Experience as the customer's first kiss with the brand. An in-store exploration where scent lovers can try the range and learn about the stories behind each fragrance. From bath cologne warmed within a tagine pot and released in a cloud of scented steam, to cleanser shaken over ice and strained into a glass, and lotion whipped and painted onto the skin with a paintbrush, the experience is a discovery of scents with fragrance layering and personalisation at the centre of it. During our celebratory evening, guests of both Jo Loves and Hattingley Valley enjoyed just that, with their choice of scents enjoyed in various forms.
Classic Reserve NV Paired with Jo Loves Golden Gardenia
Guests were welcomed with a choice of our Classic Reserve NV or Sparkling Rosé 2020. Our Classic Reserve NV, with notes of citrus, lemon zest, orange peel, and delicate floral hints of honeysuckle, paired beautifully with many scents of the evening. Still, perhaps our favourite fragrance match to this wine would be Jo Loves Golden Gardinia. The fragrance, with its orange blossom, gardenia, and spiced notes of elemi, incense, cardamom, and cumin seed, complemented the aromatic citrus notes in the wine. The velvety smooth texture of our Classic Reserve, a character resulting from four years of ageing, matched the warm, luxurious notes of the fragrance.
Golden Gardenia, inspired by the designs of London College of Fashion lockdown graduates, celebrates embracing imperfections and being unapologetically yourself. We couldn’t think of a more aligned sentiment with our Classic Reserve NV. Made from reserve wines from Hattingley vintages going back to the beginning of our winery, the Classic Reserve is a non-vintage wine that represents, not the perfection of a single ideal growing year, but a unique blend of multiple vintages that reflects our overall house style.
Rosé 2020 Paired with Jo Loves Pomello
For those who chose our Sparkling Rosé 2020, the delicate aromas and flavours of this pale English rosé were a delight. It paired perfectly with Jo Loves Pomello fragrance. Pomello, with its bold citrus base, matched the natural citrus elements in the wine. Notes of grapefruit and pomegranate in our Rosé complemented the fragrance, while the traditional rosé notes of strawberries and raspberries paired well with the sweetness of rose and vetiver in the scent. The rich notes of clove, patchouli, and suede in the fragrance reminded us of the rich texture and creamy finish of our English rosé.
Jo created Pomello as a reflection of her travels to Parrot Cay Island in the Turks and Caicos Islands, where sun-kissed shores and sparkling waters ignited new creative inspiration. Of course, the beginnings of our Rosé are slightly more humble, born from the rolling hills of the South Downs, the landscape is perhaps less glamorous, but no less inspiring to us.
