Our much-awaited Rosé magnum is back with a new vintage

Our Owner and Chairman, Simon Robinson, initially didn’t want to make a Rosé as he didn’t think it was a ‘serious wine’. However, once our previous head wine-maker, Emma Rice, won the Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championship Award for ‘Best Vintage Rosé in the world’, he soon changed his mind!

Ironically, this is now Simon’s favourite wine, and we couldn't agree more; a much-loved wine and best seller here at Hattingley Valley, this magnum from our 2015 vintage will go down well at any social event. Throwing a particularly special party? 'wine-not' try the Big Three

Harvest

The 2015 growing season was a test of good site selection, and our vineyard team did a wonderful job in challenging conditions - the summer was cooler than the previous year, particularly in August which is the crucial month for veraison and the start of the ripening season. The pinots were super-ripe with wonderful flavours, good acidity levels and deep colour.

Winemaking

The Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes were hand-harvested and whole-bunch pressed, with approximately 12% of the blend being fermented in old white Burgundy barrels, and partial malolactic fermentation took place in order to soften the wine’s natural acidity. This blend is completed with 2% of Pinot Précoce (having been vinified as a still red wine), giving this Rosé extra colour, body and flavour. The wine undergoes second fermentation in bottle and ageing on its lees for 60 months (or 5 years) before disgorging with 9g/L dosage
