Chardonnay (or should I go) Case

£157

Gone are the days of sticky, over-oaked Chardonnay’s of the 90’s, producers all around the world have hugely reduced their use of barrel influence searching for balance instead and the wines in this selection are a great example of this.

The regions of the US where these two Chardonnay’s come from are really quite cool and the producers are big fans of balance and freshness. Wines from these two areas, Sonoma Coast & Oregon are still relatively niche for the UK market, basically because the Americans drink them all! Having a roast chicken on Sunday? Then you’d be hard-pressed to find a better match than one of these two wines from our friends across the pond.

Valravn Chardonnay 2018 - £19.50

YEAR - 2018
GRAPE - Chardonnay 100%
LOCATION - Sonoma Coast
ALCOHOL (ABV) - 14%

A warm summer in the Sonoma Coast provided for a lush core of ripe peach and pineapple. These fresh fruit notes are balanced by richer flavours of toasted hazelnuts, marzipan, and toasted coconut from barrel ageing. Overall, the Valravn Chardonnay walks the delicate line between high toned freshness and the more powerful flavours of the barrel-fermented Chardonnay. More information about this wine.

Hattingley Valley Blanc de Blancs 2014 - £39.50

YEAR - 2014
GRAPE - Chardonnay 100%
ALCOHOL (ABV) - 12%

Pale golden colour with gentle green hues and delicate bubbles, this Blanc de Blancs displays beautifully the pure linear character of the Chardonnay - white stone fruit, citrus fruit and a delicious honeyed character on the nose; clean and mineral flavours with pastry and brioche notes on the palate. It has a well balanced and refreshing acidity that gives way to a creamy mouthfeel and long, complex finish.
