Kings Cuvée 2014
Before you ask, this has nothing to do with royalty (it’d be nice if it did though). It's actually named after Kings Farm which is the farm that makes up the rest of the Hattingley estate. The Kings was originally a bit of an accident, a random barrel was overlooked from the first vintage and no-one knew exactly which grapes were inside. As the wine had been inside the barrel for more than twice the length as the other ones, Emma wasn’t sure how it would taste.
As luck would have it, it was fantastic, so Simon kindly gave most of it away to a family member for their wedding! We now make this every year if the weather permits and this vintage has just won the accolade of ‘Supreme Champion’ at the WineGB awards, so it’s the best sparkling wine made in the UK, that’ll do nicely thanks.

2014 was a great year with almost perfect growing conditions. A mild spring for budburst, ideal conditions at flowering and high temperatures and plenty of sunshine throughout June and July led to good yields and excellent quality.
‘There were so many fantastic barrels in 2014 it was really hard to whittle it down to the final few. The result is a wonderfully generous wine that will develop for years to come.’
A very limited release, the Kings Cuvée is a premium blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. 100% barrel fermented and then aged for seven months in old oak barrels, resulting in a much softer, creamier and spicier wine. We were spoilt for choice when it came to selecting the absolute best barrels for this prestige wine, thanks to the exceptional 2014 vintage. Once bottled, the wine aged for fifty-two months on lees allowing the development of its complex toasty character. A small dosage of 4g/L was added after disgorgement to balance the wine’s bright acidity.
With an attractive pale golden colour and fine mousse, our Kings Cuvée has vibrant citrus zest aromas layered with honey and nuts, all smoothly integrated with creamy oak, baked apples and marzipan. Deep and rich, yet refreshing on the palate with bright, crisp acidity and a long, complex finish.
Citrus and baked apple aromas combine with hints of toast and rich spices to make this the perfect aperitif or celebration drink. It is the flawless accompaniment to any party, enjoyed with any canapé and its rich style works well to accompany courses throughout a dinner party.

This is one of the best English sparkling wines I have ever had the pleasure of sampling. Very crisp, yet very soft. It easily rivals most sparkling white wines from anywhere around the globe. Absolutely delicious, and a great indicator of the high standards at Hattingley. I shan’t hesitate to sample others in their collection.
Purchased a bottle of Kings Cuvee 2014 for my wife as a Christmas present. She loved it. Said it was the best sparkling wine she had ever had.
The wine was given as Christmas presents, and reports are of excellence. I would buy some more, but only if you used a more reliable delivery service. Pity to spoil fine wine with poor delivery arrangements. Score would have been five stars but for the delivery.
Was recommended to try the Kind’s bottle by my sister. Definitely recommend other people have a try it’s a lovely treat. Tastes lovely with a nice sweet undertone but not tacky sweet. Definitely recommend this for Christmas or special occasion.
