Simon didn’t want to make a Rosé as he didn’t think it was a ‘serious wine’. However, once Emma won the Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championship Award for ‘Best Vintage Rosé in the world’, he soon changed his mind! Ironically, this is now Simon’s favourite wine in the range and Emma’s favourite to make, so we are pretty sure you will like it too.

Rosé 2019

A very delicate pale pink colour. Bright red fruit, strawberries and raspberries with a note of pomegranate on the nose. Pink grapefruit on the palate balanced by a touch of sweet marshmallow.

Slight earthy texture, sweet, fresh hay with a creaminess from the oak element.

Harvest

2019 saw a good start to the growing season with plenty of sunshine and the hottest Easter bank holiday on record, followed by a warm, yet wet summer that led to an increased disease pressure during the ripening season. However, our vineyard team did excellent work ensuring the optimum quality of the fruit. The result was good yields of clean healthy grapes with excellent concentration of natural sugar and flavours.

Winemaking

The Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes were hand picked and gently whole-bunch pressed. Approximately 10% of the blend was fermented in 4-5 year old Burgundy barrels, adding a lovely texture and richness to the wine, and partial malolactic fermentation took place in order to soften the wine’s natural acidity. The wine spent 7 months in tank and barrel before tirage where 3% of Pinot Précoce (having been vinified as a still red) was added to enhance colour, body and flavour. The wine undergoes a second fermentation in the bottle and ageing on its lees for 24 months before disgorging.

Excellent

Excellent wine which was enjoyed by family. As I don’t drink myself, unfortunately I can’t give my personal opinion but everyone else thought it tasted wonderful. Would recommend.
